Job Planning; analyzing work load, preparing tools and supplies, technical layout,
administrative layout, and job safety. • Fishing Walls; proper
techniques to fish, IW through enclosed spaces, metal and non-conductive fish
tapes, magnepulls, and glow rods. • IW and Jacks; proper use of
two-pair, four pair, and plenum wire in a tree topology and star topology,
proper fastening patterns and techniques, proper installation and use of
625A, 625S, 104A, 635B, RJ11, RJ14, RJ45, and RJ31X , use of dry and gel
filled connectors, use and installation of 66 Blocks with and without RJ21, use
and installation of 110 Blocks. • Introduction to Business Wiring; MPOE
installation, use of standalone protectors, network interface devices, 25
pair binding post terminal, Split 50 Block, and RJ21X • Trouble Shooting
Network Faults; metallic and non-metallic faults.
U-Verse Voice Installation - This was
a lab class demonstrating the use of intermediate jacks, wall plate splitter
/ filters, RJ31X, and wiring for voice installations both VOIP and POTS.
U-Verse Premise Installation - This
training consisted of demonstrating proper cabling thru attics, crawl spaces,
fishing walls, installing NIDs, jacks, as well as the RG, and STBs. In this
class I demonstrated a complete, properly functioning install in a mock
residence.
Network Training - In this class I learned
about the outside telephone network (overhead and buried transmission
cables). I learned about proper splicing techniques, overhead mid-span
service terminals, and ground service terminals (PEDS).
Pole Climbing School - This training consisted of
proper maintenance and care of gaffs, body belt, bucksqueeze, etc • Proper
climbing techniques • Safety and Incident prevention
RF Training- Airband Communications 2012
This training provided a basic understanding of antenna design,
antenna patterns, RF modulation, RF system design considerations, explain RF
performance and optimization, understand propagation, and understand the

As a Premise Technician my responsibilities were to connect IP and wireline
based services to the customers premise. I served both commercial and
residential customers utilizing both FTTP and FTTN configurations. In a
FTTN installation my responsibility consisted of cross connecting the POTS
line through the VRAD then out to the customer’s premise using the NID as the
demarcation point. Or, when no POTS line was present I would cross
connect the VRAD to the customer’s premise using the NID as the demarcation
point. From the NID I would connect to the RG using Twisted Pair (CAT
3/5) or COAX. In a FTTP installation my responsibilities consisted of
installing the power supply and battery back-up for the ONT, using the ONT as
the demarcation point. Then I proceeded in the configuration and self
test of the ONT. Once the ONT was functioning correctly I would connect
the ONT to the RG using CAT5. Then from the RG connect the Set Top
Boxes and / or CPE using CAT5 or COAX. If a monitored alarm was present
the POTS or VOIP line would first be connected through the RJ31X to the IW
for the phone system. I used a JDSU Smart Class meter for testing quality of
coax and twisted pair lines, line length, toning and identifying lines,
testing wireless signals, testing HPNA signals, and testing VDSL signals. My
responsibilities also included trouble shooting and repairing all problems
from the SAI to inside the customer’s prem. I provided quality customer
service in all aspects of my duties.
